“Quinceañera (lit. meaning One (f.) who is fifteen), sometimes called “Fiesta de quince años”, “Fiesta de Quinceañera”, “Quince años” or simply “quince”, is the celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday in parts of Latin America and elsewhere in communities of people from Latin America.” 1)

“The quinceanera tradition dates back more than 600 years when the Aztec and Maya cultures celebrated the time when a young girl became eligible to marry, have children, and take on the responsibilities of women in the community. Eventually the Spaniards influenced the event and a deeply Catholic connection emerged.” 2)
